Philosophy
Northlight has a few very simple principles by which it pursues its design philosophy.
We are committed to finding and promoting building and living methods which will help reduce your impact on the environment.
Our design work encourages occupants to consider the multiple benefits that flow from a sustainable approach to design.
We propose more modest and simple development using construction methods and finishes which are not wasteful or expensive, but which are more raw, economic to apply and maintain, and are full of interest and emotion. We like to engage our clients in the construction and running of their home, bringing back the sense of ownership and connection to the place you live. Northlight seeks low tech solutions to sustainable design as opposed to complex and expensive systems which may not live up to their claims.
We do not want our clients to "look green" simply by using expensive add-ons to their homes. This involves a personal level of commitment to sustainable principles and ideas. There is no perfect position to take, just a response within your own limits, that helps you enjoy the benefits of sustainability in the home in which you live.
Hugh Ravening has lectured in Sustainable Building Design at The South West Regional College for over ten years and his students have delivered some exceptional work into the Bunbury community, including the Bunbury EcoHome.
